About Us
In 1980, a young John Peck set about making his first flapjacks and vegetarian savouries in the tiny kitchen of his cottage in Devon. He thoroughly enjoyed making them and hoped others would enjoy eating them too – and he was right, with Exeter University being his first customer! Word soon got round, and our bakes started selling across the South West and in 1982, Peck and Strong set up their first premises in an old Victorian brewery in Exeter.
We’re also proud of having always been conscious of our environmental and social impact which you can read more about here, striving to make a positive social contribution whilst minimising our environmental one.
BAKED BY HAND…JUST BIGGER BOWLS…

Since 1980, we’ve had a few changes… namely now working from our own site in Crediton, in the heart of Devon. We still bake by hand as John did, there are just a few more of us now and our mixer is a little bigger, but we’re still committed to making the best cakes, flapjacks, shortbreads and pastries we can!
From Exeter University (who still buy our flapjacks), you can now indulge in our cakes right across the UK and beyond. We’re approved suppliers to prestigious custodians of the past and feed the bright stars of the future, as well as being available in fantastic independent coffee shops, museums, restaurants, cafes, garden centres and tea rooms. Realising there was also a gap in the market for coffee shop quality bakes to indulge in at home, we’re now delighted to offer exactly the same delicious treats delivered directly to your door!
